1. To start the game, each player draws 7 Grief Cards.

2. The sexiest person at the table starts as the Grief Judge. This person puts aside his 7 Grief Cards and instead draws a single Challenge Card which is read out loud and placed on the table for all to see.

3. Starting with the player to the left of the Grief Judge, each player must now take a Grief Card from their hand and place them it face-down in front of one of the other players (except the Grief Judge) or himself. Note: A player cannot be gifted more cards if he already has three cards in front of him.

4. Once all regular players have played a card, again starting with the players to the left of the Grief Judge, each player will turn all cards they have been gifted this round face-up and has 10 seconds to explain how the new attributes or objects with which he or she has been gifted, in fact isn’t detrimental to the completion of the challenge.

5. Repeat step 3 and 4 two more times until all players have three cards face-up in front of them.

6. Each player now has maximum 1 minute to sum up his Grief Cards and explain to the Grief Judge, why he is still not the worst player at carrying out the challenge. The judge is allowed to ask inquisitive questions at this point also.

7. After having heard out everyone the Judge passes judgement on who would be the worst at carrying out the challenge and “awards” them the Challenge Card as a token of shame.

8. The player to the left of the Judge is now the new judge and the next turn begins. All players are allowed to discard as many Grief Cards as they want, before drawing new ones until they have 7 in hand.

9. The game ends when the players have all had the role of the Judge at least once. The loser is the person who have amassed the most Challenge Cards/shame tokens. The rest of the players are allowed to rejoice.

The Nine Steps of Grief

Judge, Griefers and cards

'Aight, so before we go over the rules of Grief and describe a round of play there's a couple of basic things you'll have to know.

Judge and Griefer

There are two player roles in Grief - Judge and Griefer. Every round of play a person from among the players has to be elected JudgeEveryone else is called a Griefer.

The Judge is the one who ultimately has to decide which of the Griefers lose the round.

So, Judge and Griefers - got it?

Challenge Cards and Grief Cards

Next you'll have to know, that there are two different types of cards in Grief - Challenge Cards and Grief Cards.

When a Judge is elected, he or she draws a Challenge Card from the Deck. This Challenge Card describes the challenge that the Griefers have to accomplish.

Grief Cards are the cards the Griefers have on hand and play during their own turn. These cards contain conditions or complications which the Griefers bestow upon others or themselves in order to not be the worst Griefer to overcome the challenge.

DETAILED RULES

Objective

A game of Grief lasts as many rounds as the players want to, but every player should have had the chance to be Judge before the game ends.

Once the final round has concluded the winner is the player who has the fewest Challenge Cards in front of him, meaning that they have lost fewest rounds.
